Essex Newspapers Essex is a large and diverse county and has an interesting history of local newspapers, many of which survive to this day to serve local communities in Essex. From early beginnings of small workforces, primitive technology and low circulation, today’s newspapers embrace the latest technologies to provide a first class news service to Essex towns and villages. Across the county, many local newspapers exist in either weekly or daily form, and provide a valuable focus for hundreds of communities in Essex. This section of Essex Life in Archive film takes a look at a film of the making of the West Essex Gazette, which was shot in 1952, and new video produced by students of the Davenant Foundation School, Loughton, when they were invited to film newspaper production and printing in 2003.
