At Sea

The students investigated and discussed the work of the Cornish naïve artist Alfred Wallis.

Working from direct observation they made pencil drawings of scale models of fishing boats.
After exploring techniques they used oil pastels to develop pictures describing life at sea making reference to Wallis’ style.

These students made detailed, well observed drawings. They selected, organised and presented their ideas effectively and imaginatively. They extended their understanding of art techniques, showing increasing independence in their use. The final pictures show strength of composition, good use of colour and clear understanding of the artist’s codes and conventions.
