Characteristics
•Children
have increasing control over materials and their use of colour.
•They
understand you can use paint in different ways for different effects.
•With
guidance, they return to their work to add detail using different materials
These children explored and discussed the visual qualities of different national flags.
They developed individual designs
using a range of geometric shapes based on what they had seen. The
final designs were painted using primary and secondary colours. All
the designs were joined together to form a large image. The children
discussed where each design should go to enhance the overall effect. The
children responded well to the idea and used materials carefully to
produce the desired effect. They learned
how images and designs can be made from geometric shapes and
how these can be combined to create a pattern.
The children explored how to control brushes and paints to produce clear lines and shapes. They listened to a piece of classical music and discussed what sort of shapes, lines and colours they could use to describe what they were feeling.
The
final paintings show good use of a range of techniques and
approaches including blending and over-painting. The
paintings are very clear and the shapes and colours used make a
lively and expressive impact.
The children made paintings of a group of objects. They worked directly with paint starting by drawing the shapes with white paint on grey paper and then matching colours, textures and patterns to the different objects. They used pastels at the end to add fine detail. This child has positioned the group well. They have drawn the different shapes clearly and controlled the materials to produce the effects of different surface patterns.
The
children looked at how different artists painted flowers. They
concentrated on the work of Georgia O’Keefe, Van Gogh and Odilon
Redon.
•They
chose the image they liked best and made their own
interpretation.
In
the process they explored how to use different consistencies of
paint and brush size to achieve a variety of effects.
•The
final results show good control and use of materials. The children
learned about the artists
and discussed how people can achieve different results when
working from similar starting points.
Children used viewfinders to investigate texture and pattern in natural forms. They worked with different materials developing practical skills and experimented with a range of techniques and approaches. This child made a good choice of patterns from a range of objects to produce a balanced design. They used appropriate materials and controlled them to produce the effect they wanted. |
