A Sense of Place
Pupils visited a sea-side location where they made studies of natural and made objects and forms. When they returned they explored how they could use these studies to create a painting expressing the difference between the rural and urban environment. In the process they studied the work of early twentieth century artists, such as Fernand Leger and Percy Wyndham Lewis who worked in a similar way. This pupil has shown very good visual awareness when collecting and selecting source material and making studies on location. Ideas have been successfully adapted and improved in the sketchbook to produce a final piece which combines a good choice of materials and processes to communicate a clearly understood comment on urbanisation. |
