Spark Island is an online learning channel for children aged 3 to 12. It has been designed, built and tested in close co-operation with teachers and education experts. Children can practise and develop core skills in a highly interactive and enjoyable way, using the full capabilities of digital media.

The current learning activities in Spark Island focus on English, maths and science. All activities are closely linked to UK curriculum requirements and are supported by teaching suggestions and additional printable resources. The parents’ section includes information, ideas and advice on all aspects of primary education and children's development.

Spark Learning, the company behind Spark Island, has undertaken extensive research among primary school teachers to find out which curriculum topics they find most difficult to teach. Learning activities addressing these topics have been developed and integrated with the characters, plot and environments of Spark Island. The learning materials are then reviewed by Spark Island's board of educational advisers and trialled in classrooms.

Spark Island is designed to be used both in the classroom and at home. The approach is to balance a variety of teaching and learning styles within the materials. Equally importantly, children have been provided with opportunities to explore, discover and create, using their imagination.

Spark Island has a growing bank of interactive resources with the capability to respond to its audience's needs. Subscribers receive new learning activities, features, reference resources and product reviews each month. Although new activities are added regularly, all existing materials remain accessible on the site, and future community features such as chat and message-boards will encourage interaction between subscribers.
